Stendhal was One of the Greatest Writers of the 19th Century
1. Marie-Henri Beyle, who was known by his pen name Stendhal, was one of the greatest writers of the 19th century. Stendhal was born in Grenoble, France to a wealthy family in January of 1783. His mother died when he was only seven years old. At the age of sixteen, Stendhal moved to Paris to study for the entrance examination to the Ãâ°cole Polytechnique but instead enlisted and served as a lieutenant in the French army for eighteen months. He spent the next few years in Paris writing and taking drama classes, followed by a second military role in the French army until the French Empire fell in 1814. After his time in the army had ended, Stendhal moved to Italy where he started his career as a writer. In Italy, Stendhal wrote his first novel titled Rome, Naples, and Florence in 1817. Then in 1818, he fell in love with Mathilde Dambowski who did not return his affections. Stendhals love for Mathilde inspired a lot of his most significant works. Taking advantage of his success in writing, Stendhal returned to Paris in 1821 to discuss the latest ideas of art, literature, and politics. This helped him write his next two novels; On Love and Racine and Shakespeare. Stendhal wrote Racine and Shakespeare as a romantic novel that insists that literature should reflect its historical moment. Stendhal continued to write magnificent novels until 1842 when he passed away as the result of a stroke. 2. Stendhal is considered to be an important author of western literature

When you hear the word ââ¬Å"heroâ⬠you think of somebody that is brave, courageous, and determined. They seem to always support a cause and wanting to make a difference. He doesnââ¬â¢t show any disease or pain and he fights throughout the war without showing and fear and shows how brave and courageous he truly is. After this, Henry wants to leave the war because he truly just doesnt see the point any longer. One characteristic that shows he is a hero is that despite how cruel the war was to him and to everybody, he still finds happiness. He is overjoyed with Catherine because she gives him hope and meaning to live and without her he would be an outcast. We had a lovely time that summer...I remember the carriage...Catherine Barkley sitting beside me. If we let our hands touch...we were excited. (112) He is happier than ever! She changed his life and he couldnââ¬â¢t be any more glad. In the beginning of the novel, I would never expect him to act like this. He has changed and it is for the better. The final obstacle that is the turning point of the novel is when Catherine is giving birth to their baby. It seems as if Henry doesnââ¬â¢t even care about her or the baby at this point. Lack of knowledge in relevance with the environmental conditions of Singaporean fast food market. Lack of knowledge in relevance with the marketing strategies used for the promotion of new product of the Burger Hut (Swanson, 2015). Macro as well as micro environmental factors of Singaporean business environment will be evaluated for making the adequate promotional as well as survival strategies. It will help the organization to enhance the chances of their growth in the Singapore market. Political: Political factors have the great impact over the industries because a small amendment made in the tax systems or in the exports, imports, etc. will discreetly affect the business industries performance. The same goes with Burger Hut, amendments made in the tax system of the Singapore, imposing duties or taxes over the restaurant business, etc. will directly increase cost of the production and it will leads to increase in the prices of the food items served by Burger Hut. Economic: Economic condition of the Singaporean market will not impact over the performance of the Burger Hut and in terms of setting up a new business; their government provides various subsidies through which setting up the business in the new economic conditions becomes easy and reliable. Fast food industry has adopted this aspect for taking the orders from the consumers, to register complaint regarding the orders, to take the reviews from consumers on the basis of their experiences, etc. Apart from this, Burger huts primary competitors have already adopted the technological aspect in their workplace hence; this would be a compulsory adaptation for the Burger Hut in order to develop their market presence in the Singapore (Parente Strausbaugh-Hutchinson, 2014). Environmental: As per the environmental aspects of the Singapore market, adequate machinery and the other relevant technologies should be used through which organization could be able to meet with the environmental requirements. Functionalities of Burger Hut are not irrelevant with the environmental requirements of Singapore and this will make smoother process for Burger Hut in terms of setting up the business in new market. Legal: Legal obligation and the rules described under Singaporean law should be fulfilled adequately in terms of setting up the business. This will help the Burger Hut to remove future glitches that will be arise due to non-fulfilment of the legal considerations (Nagle, Hogan Zale, 2016). Amongst these strategies it was observed that primary competitors of Burger Hut in Singapore will be Kings Burger and Singapore Fast Food Company. They are involved in the fast food industry since very long time and in order to set up a distinctive place in the competitive market, Burger Hut needs to utilise its strengths for enhancing the demand of the new product as well as to gain competitive advantage in the Singaporean competitive market (Hollensen, 2015). Marketing Communication Objectives Main motive behind developing the marketing objectives are spreading awareness in relation with the new product invented by the organization in the public in an effective manner. Setting marketing objectives involves targeting audience, adaptation of adequate advertisement strategies. While considering the objective of Burger Hut, it is observed that they have invented the new product for fulfilment of the consumers needs as well as to build an effective place in the fast food industry (Fuster, 2016). To promote the new product in the Singapore market, Burger Hut needs to evaluate the sources through which better results could be attained in terms of promoting the Noodle Veggie Cheese Burger in the Singapore market. Main marketing objectives of the Burger Hut are integrity, loyalty, consistency, convincing power, etc. Through these objectives, organization needs to showcase only those points which could show the true picture of the new product. If the actual products description and the promoted characteristics of the product do not match then it may affect the demand of the product (Fogel, et. al., 2017). Apart from these objectives, Burger Hut needs to consider the quality of the product as well as the convincing power into its marketing strategies. Through these objectives, organization would be able to develop its distinctive market image in the fast food industry of Singapore (Dey, 2016). Marketing Communication Strategy In the marketing communication strategy of Burger Hut, combination of effective advertisement platforms could be adopted. These platforms will help the organization to promote the Noodle Veggie Cheese burger effectively in the Singaporean public. Market research program will also be used for enhancing the demand of the new product launched in the Singapore market. As this burger will not impact over the health of the people hence; this option could also be used in the marketing communication strategies for spreading the awareness regarding the new product to be launched by the Burger Hut (Chhabra Kiran, 2015). Major platforms which are available for promoting the new product launched by Burger Hut are electronic medium of advertisement and the print medium of advertisement. Building a combination of these two mediums of advertisement will be the most effective technique for Burger Hut in order to promote its Noodle Veggie Cheese Burger (Catherine Henderson, 2014). Print medium of advertisement includes board hoarding, newspaper advertisement, magazine advertisement, etc. Apart from these sources, Burger Hut could also take the support of providing offers, discounts on their products. These are some of the factors through which organization could gain some competitive advantage as well as it will also help the organization to enhance the new products demand in the Singapore (Carlsen, Nygaard Nikolaou, 2013). Electronic medium of the advertisement and promotion includes advertisement through television, radio, internet resources, social media platforms, etc. These sources of advertisement are bit more effective in comparison with the paper medium of promotion as well as through this medium of advertisement; large area of the market could be covered (Baker, 2014). Implementation Tactics This step involves the selection of the adequate and effective strategies through which organization would be able to meet with the desired goals and the objectives in terms of developing the separate image in the Singapore market. The main motive of the Burger Hut is to introduce the Noodle Veggie Cheese Burger in order to build the trust in the Singapore public through serving them adequate qualitative products. The burger is the combination of modern taste as well as the traditional strength. In order to select the appropriate strategy in terms of developing separate image in the competitive business environment, organization needs to adopt adequate mixture of paper as well as electronic sources of promotion of the products. With these promotional strategies, pamphlets could also be used to in order to enhance the demand of the products (Ashley Tuten, 2015). Evaluation and Control Methods In order to develop the unique identity in the fast food industry, organization needs to evaluate the selected the techniques and the strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of the organization. To overcome from the challenges faced by the organization in order to promote the products of the organization needs to resolved and the major processes through which organization could resolve those issues are the adaptation of adequate control measures. Burger Huts management needs to analyse the effectiveness of the marketing strategies, strategies to evaluate the macro as well as micro environmental factors to understand the marketing conditions of the Singapore market. It will help the organization to take the adequate decision in order to gain the knowledge in relevance with the promotion of the new product in Singaporean market (Armstrong, et. al., 2015). The Last Judgment Essay Example For Students
The Last Judgment Essay Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists of all time. He excelled in architecture, sculpture, painting, poetry, and engineering. He was a true Renaissance man who lived a long emotional life. In painting ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment,â⬠Michelangelo was able to incorporate all that he had learned about the human body. He was able to show the way the body moved, as well as itââ¬â¢s displays of unrestrained passion, overwhelming grief, or endless torment. This is what makes ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠such a unique and exceptional work of art. In the spring of 1534, Michelangelo received a commission from Clement VII to paint ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel. He was also commissioned at this time to paint a ââ¬Å"Fall of the Angelsâ⬠on the entrance wall, but this second work was never executed. He had painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel some twenty eight years prior, but the style of his ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠would greatly differ from that of the ceiling. We will write a custom essay on The Last Judgment specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Before Michelangelo could begin, there were many preparations to be made. A scaffold had to be built and the wall had to be prepared. Five paintings by Perugino and Michelangelo had to be removed. Two windows had to be walled up and Michelangelo ââ¬Å"ordered it to be inclined forward by about half an ell toward the top, hoping in this fashion to protect his work against the accumulation of dust.â⬠(Brandes 388)Sebastiano del Piombo had persuaded the pope that the painting would look best in oil, and the wall was therefore prepared to receive oil pigments. This delayed the beginning of the work, since Michelangelo declared oil-painting to be an ââ¬Å"effeminate artâ⬠and insisted on painting ââ¬Å"al fresco,â⬠as he had done with the ceiling. The wall had to be done over and Michelangelo never spoke to Sebastiano, who had once been a student of Michelangelo. (Brandes 389)There were many previous depictions of the Last Judgment which influenced Michelangeloââ¬â¢s plan for the painting. Such other works include Giottoââ¬â¢s painting on the wall of the Camposanto in Pisa, Giovanni Pisanoââ¬â¢s sculpture on the pulpit of the San Andrea in Pistoia, and Fra Angelicaââ¬â¢s and Signorelliââ¬â¢s frescoes in Orvieto. Finally, there is the reverse side of a medallion his old teacher Bertoldo had made for Archbishop Filipo deââ¬â¢ Medici. (Brandes 385)Michelangelo began the giant painting sometime during April and May of 1536. He worked rigorously on the project until he fell from the scaffolding a few months prior to the completion of the painting and seriously hurt his leg. Following his recovery, Michelangelo returned to work on ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment.â⬠It was completed in October of 1541 and unveiled on Christmas Day two months later. (Symonds 328)Many were appalled to see the great amount of nudity which filled the painting. They did not feel that it was appropriate for such holy people to be depicted without clothes on. Mic helangelo felt that it was the body which ascends to Heaven, not the clothes. Unfortunately, Michelangeloââ¬â¢s masterpiece only remained intact for fourteen years, at which point artists were commissioned to paint clothes on the ââ¬Å"most beautiful nudes.â⬠(Brandes 392-394)The central figure of ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠is of course, Christ. However, the Christ which appears in Michelangeloââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment,â⬠is not the typical loving, and sympathetic Christ depicted throughout the Renaissance. The fresco is dominated by Christ ââ¬Å"as the medieval judge of the worldââ¬âa giant whose might right arm is lifted in a gesture of damnation so broad and universal as to suggest he will destroy all creation, Heaven and earth alike.â⬠(Croix, Tansey, and Kirkpatrick 665) Michelangelo followed the tradition of others in having Christ at the top, with his hand raised, brighter than the rest of the angels and demons. Christ seems to have a harsh and cold expression which furthers Michelangeloââ¬â¢s depiction of Christ as the Judge. .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .postImageUrl , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:hover , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:visited , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:active { border:0!important; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:active , .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839 .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8f75489e9481eee554a53eaf81065839:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Persuasive Essay - the Arts in the EducationStanding closest to Jesus on the right is St. John. He is the young man who forms the counterpart to the Madonna, but he is completely in awe of Christ, while the Madonna seems to droop in some sort of dismay. She does not look toward Christ, nor toward anyone else. The large man to the right, holding the key to heaven is St. Peter. He seems to be asking Jesus for whom he is to open the gate to Heaven. St. Peterââ¬â¢s counterpart on the left is Adam who gaze is fixed intently on his Master. Close to him is Abel and on Adamââ¬â¢s other side, closest to Christ, is the Good Thief. Below Christ there are two great figures to the right and left. St. Lawrence to the left holds his gridiron, while St. Bartholomew holds in his left hand the skin which had been flayed from his body. It is in this skin that one can see a self-portrait of Michelangelo. Behind Bartholomew we see the head and shoulders of a kneeling youth. This is the Apostle Thomas. The row of saints is continued to the right with St. Catherine, bending over the wheel on which she was martyred, and St. Sebastian kneeling and holding in his left hand the arrows that had pierced him. (Brandes 389-391)In the space toward the bottom, directly below Christ, one can see mighty angels blowin g their horns. There are seven angels, which Michelangelo found in Revelation 8, 2. They also have the two books, the Book of Life and the Book of Judgment. These books are often mentioned in the Old Testament as holding all the records of our actions and decide who will be allowed into heaven. To the right are the condemned souls. They are plunging downward to the base of the wall. They are tormented by demons with burning eyes and are filled with despair. The great wrath of the Lord is upon them. Charonââ¬â¢s boat (which is in Greek mythology) is filling with passengers and to the far right stands Minos, encircled by serpents, ready to judge those who have been sent to him. It is said that Michelangelo modeled Minos after the papal master of ceremonies, Biagio, who had complained about the nudity in ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment.â⬠(Brandes 391)On the left, the saved souls rise from their graves and assume the flesh. They then begin their ascent toward Heaven. One may expect there to be as much joy on the left as there is torment on the right, but these souls are not filled with exceedingly great happiness. Michelangelo has filled them with a similar amount of horror as those who are on the right. The chosen ones are not even greeted with a smile from Christ who seems ââ¬Å"far less inclined to acquit than to condemn.â⬠(Brandes 385) These souls seem to be rushing toward Heaven without any sort of elegance or style, simply trying to beat one another there. ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠is far different from the fresco paintings that Michelangelo had done on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The entire mood has changed. On the ceiling, the ideas of hope and exaltation seem to rule, but on the altar wall, there is the depiction of Christ as the unforgiving Judge. ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠has a ââ¬Å"drastically plain and direct style, with squarish rather than supple figures,â⬠(Creighton 30) whereas the ceiling has a more complicated style. Also, the figures of the altar wall do not possess the same amount of beauty as the figures of the ceiling. In comparison with ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠by Cavallini, one sees that Michelangeloââ¬â¢s interpretation of the Last Judgment is far different than the interpretation that Cavallini had in 1291. Cavalliniââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment,â⬠a fresco in the church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, Rome. Cavallini, who was perhaps influenced by some Roman paintings that we do not have today, abandoned the Byzantine style of linearism for a softer style. Although this painting may have seemed somewhat revolutionary, it is in no way as free flowing or emotional as Michelangeloââ¬â¢s. Pietro Cavalliniââ¬â¢s fresco simply depicts three apostles sitting with Christ. They are all clothed and have halos above their heads. There are not any souls being judged as there are in Michelangeloââ¬â¢s. Christ is not in the center of the picture, and He does not have the same amount of power that He has in Michelangeloââ¬â¢s. The torment that is so overwhelming in Michelangel oââ¬â¢s Renaissance version of ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠is not depicted at all in Cavalliniââ¬â¢s Proto-Renaissance painting. The Apostles, as well as Christ, are also seated in chairs in Cavilliniââ¬â¢s fresco, whereas they are standing in the clouds in the latter of the two paintings. .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .postImageUrl , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:hover , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:visited , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:active { border:0!important; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:active , .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874 .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u99751af827a03f68f5f68fa177948874:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Didital Tv EssayMichelangeloââ¬â¢s painting is also much more life-like than Cavalliniââ¬â¢s. All of the differences are quite understandable, considering that these two frescos were painted at completely separate times. (Croix, Tansey, and Kirkpatrick 567)Michelangeloââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠is a splendid masterpiece of the High Renaissance. It stresses the importance of the human body and the ways in which the body can move. The emotional content is also very characteristic of this time. The torment and horror is also quite indicative of the hardships which Michelangelo felt during this time in his life. He had grown rather bitter toward all men, w hich can quite easily be inferred from the lack of joy in ââ¬Å"The Last Judgment.â⬠(Brandes 394)ââ¬Å"The Last Judgmentâ⬠is a beautiful painting by the master artist, Michelangelo. His painting gives a greater understanding of the Renaissance era as well as an insight into his own feelings. The fresco painting is skillfully planned out and uses the space extremely well. Michelangelo borrowed some of the ideas from his predecessors, but he also put his own twist on the painting, making it a masterpiece. Works Cited Brandes, Georg. Urban Transportation Problems Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Urban Transportation Problems - Assignment Example g this, there are two policies that present problems: the first, that city governments mismanage curb parking, and second, that city governments required developers to provide free parking or extensive off-street parking (Klein, 2006). In truth, free parking is not free, since easily the required parking for a business establishment, such as a restaurant, may occupy a space three times that of the establishment itself. In the US, the subsidy to parking may easily reach $127 billion to $374 billion annually, not yet counting curb parking which is either free or underpriced (Shoup, 2005). Furthermore, it makes people feel that they are entitled to free parking as a right. Free parking and off-street parking, when carried to excess, tends to ââ¬Å"increase traffic congestion and air pollution, distort urban form, degrade urban design, increase housing costs, limit homeownership, damage the urban economy, harm the central business district, and penalize poor families (Shoup, 2005:592). More importantly, it has an effect on the demand for public mass transportation facilities. Because parking becomes convenient, there is a general tendency for people to choose to travel in their own private cars, instead of taking public transportation, or even in lieu of cycling and walking (Shoup, 2005:2-3). It was found that in urban neighbourhoods that are required to provide parking spaces, residents were 28% more likely to travel by automobile than residents in areas where parking supply is optional and therefore less (Litman, January 2010). Since private cars would be able to carry travellers from their homes to within close proximity to their destination, the c onvenience afforded by free parking makes it the transportation medium of choice. Pursuant to Anthony Downââ¬â¢s triple convergence principle, there are three types of convergence: spatial convergence, when drivers tend to come together at peak hours to a principal thoroughfare; time convergence, when more cars elect to
